The ORID framework offers us a systematic method for conducting conversations.
Objective:
This phase involves gathering facts and information. When collecting information, approach it like a detective by asking direct questions. Remember, the aim is not to solve a mystery. Keep a curious and open mindset. Ask specific questions in a friendly manner and with a smile. Pay attention to all the minute details you can gather.
For example, if a team member is unhappy about being put on the spot during a meeting and wants to discuss it with you as their manager, gather details such as the meeting agenda, date and time, location, attendees, and their respective roles and titles.

Reflective:
At this stage, we will connect the collected information with individuals and their emotions. Explore the emotions, feelings, and thoughts of the individuals involved. Ask direct questions about their emotions and reactions. Probe their responses to fully grasp the seriousness of the situation. Dive deeper to understand people's perspectives thoroughly.
Interpretive:
During this phase, we will consider various approaches based on the task's importance. If necessary, we can discuss timelines. Evaluate all approaches carefully to make a decision. If there are multiple issues, prioritize and list them accordingly.
Decisional:
Once all the data has been gathered, the next step is to organize it and draw conclusions. This process may involve creating timelines, identifying stakeholders, exploring alternative approaches, eliminating limiting beliefs and more.
Understanding the situation is vital as we might be navigating unfamiliar terrain. Stress the significance of nurturing a conversation rather than getting into an argument. Employing a direct and structured approach can lead to positive outcomes and help individuals enhance their productivity and overcome challenges.
